Captain Enda’s Day
Swinford Golf Club was at its very best for Captain Enda Murtagh’s big day, the course in splendid condition and the golf matching the fine company.
In the ladies’ competition, Patricia Feeney took top honours with a superb 64, ahead of Margaret Mulligan (69) and Lorena McNicholas (70). The gents saw young Kevin Irwin deliver a sparkling 63, adding his name to a family tradition of success. John McCarrick and Pat Henry followed on 68, showing once again that golf in Swinford is truly a game for every generation.
The day was rounded off with music, a few libations, and a fine gathering to toast Captain Enda and thank all who worked hard to make the occasion memorable, from the course team to those in the kitchen and clubhouse. A great day of golf and plenty stayed to raise a glass and recount tales of missed putts and exaggerated drives.
Interclub Matches – July Roundup and August Fixtures
July was a busy month for our Interclub teams, with mixed fortunes across the board but plenty of heart and commitment shown in every match.
Pierce Purcell : July 13th vs Enniscrone – Lost
A tough day out in heavy showers, with our lads fighting hard to the end. Sean Geraghty and Pat O’Neill battled back late on to halve their match, while Keith McHugh and Philip Irwin added a point away. Despite the loss, the effort and support on the day were top-class..
Cecil Ewing : July 19th vs Claremorris – Lost
Our lads gave it their all but came up short against a strong Claremorris side.
Jack O’Sullivan : July 22nd vs Ballina – WON
A great team performance saw Swinford come out on top against Ballina, a well-deserved win for the lads.

Open Week 2025 – August 2nd to 6th
Swinford Golf Club is set to welcome golfers from near and far for our Open Week 2025, running Saturday, August 2nd through Wednesday, August 6th.
Each day brings a new 9-hole Stableford competition, with daily prizes up for grabs. Members can enter for €5 (€3 re-entry), and visitors are warmly welcome at €10 (€5 re-entry). Tee times can be booked via BRS, with visitors asked to sign in at reception on arrival.
Whether you’re chasing silverware or just soaking up the summer golf, it promises to be a great few days on the fairways of Swinford. We’d love to see strong support from members and plenty of fresh faces on the tee.
Open Sweep – Results and Thanks
Our Open Sweep added some welcome funds to the club’s coffers, and we’re grateful to everyone who entered and supported the draw. It made for great fun following the action from Portrush, with plenty of twists and turns on the leaderboard right to the finish.
In the end, Aidan Benson took top honours, his picks edging the win by a single shot over a chasing pack. Congratulations to all our prize winners:
🏆 1st : Aidan Benson (-52) – €400
🥈 2nd : Ken Carney (-51, wins tiebreak) – €300
🥉 3rd : Paul Gormley (-51) – €200
4️⃣ Vincent Roughneen (-48) – €125
5️⃣ Ben Swinburne (-47) – €75
Thanks again to everyone who entered – your support keeps the club moving forward, and there’ll be more chances for glory (and bragging rights) in the next sweep.
